To grow as a musician takes time and patience but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun along the way. As opportunities present themselves to play along with other musicians there are tools of the trade to assist in making the experience more enjoyable. One of those tools is a chart called the “Circle of Fifths” which helps you to navigate the chord progressions of a song by knowing what key it is in.
I wish when I was first starting out I would have known about this simple but incredibly effective tool. It would have made my early jamming experiences so much more rewarding and would have helped me to advance in my musical pursuit with a lower level of frustration. I think sometimes my pride or stubbornness got in the way.
Using the tools available to you in your musical pursuits doesn’t show a sign of incompetence but rather wisdom and diligence. So, always have a chart with you so you can play with confidence when playing with others or trying to play along with one of your favorite recorded songs. I hope that you will take advantage of the tools of your trade that will assist you in the goals you’ve set before you.
Keep Playing & have Fun in the process!
